Gerald Ernest was born in Leeds, lived at Seacombe, Cheshire and enlisted in Liverpool. He joined the 19th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment with the Service number 21822 before transferring to the 6th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment.

He died of wounds on 26/09/1918 and is buried at Houchin British Cemetery at III.D.25.
