Daniel Jackson was born on 02nd March 1887, the fifth of six children born to Joseph Jackson, a baker born in Ruabon, and his wife Anne (nee Morgan) from Pulford, Cheshire who were at this time living at 11 Rushton Place, Woolton. Daniel was baptised on 03rd April 1887 in St Peter’s Church, Woolton.

The 1891 Census shows the family at 11 Rushton Place, when Daniel has 3 older brothers, and both an older and a younger sister.

In 1894 Joseph and Ann had another son, Ernest William but the 1901 Census shows that Joseph has died and his widow lives at the same address with her five sons – George, 26 years, a postman; Henry, 21 years, a bobbin turner; John, 16 years, a telegraph messenger; Daniel and Ernest, both at school.

When he left school, Daniel also took up employment with the Post Office and the 1911 Census shows him with his mother and younger brother Ernest still living at 11 Rushton Place. Daniel is now 24 years old and is said to be a letter carrier with the Post Office, while Ernest is a copper roller’s apprentice.

On 30th January 1913 in St Peter’s Church, Woolton, Daniel Jackson, 26 years, postman, of Dale Cottage, Woolton, son of Joseph (deceased) married Annie Gertrude Stout, 20 years, daughter of Alfred King Stout, a warehouseman and living at the Post Office, Woolton. On 25th April 1914, Daniel and Annie had twin daughters – Bertha and Martha who were baptised in St Peters, Woolton on 31st May 1914.

Daniel enlisted in Liverpool joining the 17th Battalion of The King's Liverpool Regiment as Private 42689. His Medal Card shows that he earned the BWM and VM which indicates that he arrived in France in 1916.

He died of wounds on 02nd August 1917, possibly sustained during the opening day of the Battle of Paschendaele on 31st July 1917.

Daniel Jackson now rests at II E 14 in Brandhoek New Military Cemetery, Belgium.

During the First World War, Brandhoek was within the area comparatively safe from shell fire, which extended beyond Vlamertinghe Church. Field ambulances were posted there continuously.

Until July 1917 burials had been made in the Military Cemetery, but the arrival of the 32nd, 3rd Australian and 44th Casualty Clearing Stations in preparation for the new Allied offensive launched that month made it necessary to open the New Military Cemetery, followed in August by the New Military Cemetery No 3.

Brandhoek New Military Cemetery contains 530 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and 28 German war graves. The burials are of July and August 1917 and among them is the grave of Captain Noel Chavasse, VC and Bar, MC, one of only three men who have won the Victoria Cross twice.

The cemetery was designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield.

His death was reported in the local press:
